NAEF's definition
of Resource Conservation Technologies (RCTs) goes beyond
the current international agricultural research definition
of practices that preserve or renew natural resources
to include and emphasize: 1) appropriately sized and
priced machinery technologies (rural and agricultural
mechanization); and 2) techniques that conserve farmers
“resources" of time (labor reduction) and
money and reduce risk, those things most dear to small
and impoverished farmers. Besides the traditional agricultural
RCTs of zero-till, or no-till (conservation agriculture
/ CA) technologies, we include reduced till, new improved
irrigation pumpsets and drip irrigation, and reapers
and harvesters, threshers and driers. All technologies
that increase the efficiency of inputs and save time
and money put into crop production, and therefore increase
farmers’ bottom line. Below are the RCTs that
NAEF is currently researching and promoting.
