UN's Asian Pacific Center for Agricultural Engineering and Machinery

(APCAEM)

Formerly UN's Regional Network for Agricutural Machinery (RNAM) APCAEM was established in the mid 1980s to aid member countries in their agricultural mechanization goals. One of its biggist achievements was to help set up a National Agricutural Mechanization Comittees (NAMCs) in each member country. While active in the late 80s and early 90s it's activities and importance in setting priorities and influencing policies has greatly waned. Having shifted its HQs from Bangkok to Beijing CHina, NAEF was invited as an observer in the Techical and Governing Council's meetings held in Delhi in 2005. We have also participated actively in the online forums in promoting out ideas of selective and inclusive agricutural mechanization. While APCAEM is well placed as a Subregional Arm for promoting sustainable and inclusive development in the Asia Pacific region it has been hampered by frequent changes in its director and poor levels of funding. Still, after the dissolution of IRRI's, Silsoe's and FAO's ag engineering programs it remains the only international institution for the development of agriengineering in the developing world. We will continue to aid, advise and provide well wishes for this this important institution.
