Promotion and credit for flatbed/rural rickshaws

On April 1st 2007 NAEF officially started a test of a loan program for rickshaws the poor. Our first loan went to a former rickshaw puller named Rajman Lodh of Marchawar Rupandehi District. Rajman pulled a rich man’s rickshaw for more than 4 years earning very little. Though he is not earning as much as he hoped due to the continuing unrest (strikes and closures (bandh) throughout the district), he claims he has enough for his daily family needs and he no longer has pays rent to someone else And he is now a proud rickshaw owner / goods carrier. He has to repay the loan 50.00 Rupees per day (and has been doing so for the last 4 months) and on successful completion of the payments in December 2007 the rickshaw lien will be burnt and rickshaw will be all his. Congratulations Rajman Lodh.

NAEF feels that this test has gone very well so that we are have begun searching for funding to immediately scale up this program.
