Chinese pumpsets with layflat pipes

NAEF along with the help of National Trading Ltd. and a couple other cooperators began to promote lightweight Chinese made diesel and electric water pumps and layflat delivery (DV) in 2003. Today they are spreading rapidly across Nepal. The pump sets are cheaper and for the diesel pumpsets are much lightweight than compared to the Indian Kiloskar pump sets. Paired with the lay flat, flexible delivery pipes there are many advantages listed below. Cost of a 4 HP pumpset has come down to around 16,000 NRs or 220 USD.

  • 30%-50% water is saved from canal infiltration loss (no nala/kulo loss)
  • Better water management with in the plots as hose pipe can be moved around in the individual plots and there is less over or under irrigation
  • Saves mone
  • Saves work-drdugery as there is no nala/kulo necessary-drudgery reduction
  • Saves diesel
  • More area can be irrigated with the water saved
  • Markets (selling of water to neighbors) for irrigation water are expanding.
  • Price for 5 HP aircooled with 3 inch output is approximately 15,000.
  • Cost of layflat delivery pipe is approximately 150 NRs a kilo. Kilogram of 3 inch pipe is about 3 meter
