Promotion of Chinese Two-Wheel Tractors (2WTs) in Afghanistan

In October 2005 NAEF was asked by Joint Development Consultants, an INGO based in Mazar Sharif to aid in demonstration and testing of 2WTs and 2BG6A seeders in northern Afghanistan. During multiple visits over the next two years NAEF has help to establish an import company for these machinery, aided in obtaining financing for farmers/owner operators, and establishing a national innovation system in support of 2WTs in Afghanistan that includes other importers, mechanics, national and international agencies. I our last visit in January and February 2007 NAEF's Ashok Chaudhary and Scott Justice lead a two-wheel tractor training of trainers for 2-wheel tractor mechanics in Mazar-Sharif, that included 10 private sector mechanics, engineers from Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, and operators from JDA and Solidarities Afghanistan, and JDA. We have been informed that though the two-wheel tractors is not selling as previously intended sales are continuing and more importers are entering into the market. For more information contact Mark Henning or Osman Sediqi at JDA, Mazaar Sharif.
